Shoreditch Trust introduces StarLit — a new week-long festival of children’s literature from 5–9 October 2009, celebrating the very best of writing for 5 to 15 year-olds.
Taking place during Children’s Book Week, StarLit has been developed and produced by Shoreditch Trust as part of their commitment to encouraging children to develop a passion for literature and reading, self-expression and creative writing.
StarLit has provided copies of 80 different book titles read by over 2,000 children in Hackney throughout September. Each class or group then meets the author or illustrator of each book during StarLit in an exciting programme of daytime events in Hoxton Square. This year’s festival has over 70 top authors, illustrators and poets taking part.
In addition, StarLit presents StarLit Nights — a series of special evening events at The Bridge Academy featuring an amazing line up of authors and performers as well as film screenings.
Shoreditch Trust will also publish a special paperback book issue of Shoreditch Star, its acclaimed children’s newspaper, packed with reports, reviews, interviews and artwork in response to StarLit.
