Image for Starlit

Starlit is a Literature festival delivered by Shoreditch Trust working with primary and secondary schools across the Borough of Hackney.

The week-long festival hosted in Hoxton Square is designed to include a series of interactive reading workshops where pupils can meet and engage with authors and illustrators, having spent time in their classroom developing a familiarity with the text.

Starlit is not attempting to improve literacy, though the content and delivery is not counterproductive to this aim. Instead the philosophy that underpins Starlit is one that aims to inspire critical thinking and self-expression among young people, whilst encouraging new forms of engagement with literature so that young people do not just treat reading, writing and illustration as mechanical processes.
