Coronavirus (Covid-19)

Shoreditch Trust temporary move to remote support. Updated 26 March 2020

13 March 2020

We are open and we're here for Hackney.

Ask for help: If you, or someone you know in Hackney or the City needs support during the outbreak of Coronavirus get in touch.

Call: 020 7033 8501 or 020 7033 8587

To volunteer: All volunteer efforts are being centrally coordinated. To join team Hackney visit

To donate: We are currently fundraising for a freezer, to begin offering food delivery to people who are severely ill or unable to leave the house. Please help if you can

Shoreditch Trust has paused all face to face appointments, home visits, drop-in sessions, community walks, training and groups, to limit the potential spread of Covid-19 (Coronavirus) and protect the health of people using our services, many of whom are older and/or have physical health problems, or are heavily pregnant.

However, we're still here, supporting everyone by phone, video calls and emails at this time, and we are still accepting new people into our services.

We have compiled urgent support and risk plans for everybody who uses our services, to help identify the people who need extra care at this time.

Everybody who regularly uses one of our projects has received calls exploring:

  • how the person is feeling,
  • whether they know the symptoms of Coronavirus,
  • where to find accurate information about the virus,
  • what to do if they feel unwell,
  • what practical support the person has if they have to stay at home and who would provide this,
  • details of next of kin, GP and any care providers.

Where people do not have contingency plans in place we are working to rectify this.

WaterHouse Restaurant is closed

WaterHouse Restaurant has temporarily closed following advice from the UK Government. Blue Marble Training is providing emotional support to trainee chefs remotely.

iNDUSTRY spaces are open

Our low cost iNDUSTRY co-working spaces, studios and offices for social enterprises, small businesses and charities have remained open for tenants who are working from them. People using the building are asked to observe NHS advice on Coronavirus.

We have shared details of the advice and support available for small businesses with all iNDUSTRY tenants.

Bookings at The Healthy Living Centre

Shoreditch Trust activities at the Healthy Living Centre have paused and all external bookings for meeting and activity rooms have been cancelled.

New bookings and rescheduled bookings are being accepted. If you need to contact us about your booking please email

Please note that the NHS Maternity Centre at 170 Pitfield Street is still operational.

Reasons for this decision

We have taken the difficult decision to move to remote support based on Government, NHS, Local Authority and charity guidance and advice from our insurers. We have also received expert support from our trustees, many of whom have a health and social care background.

Our decision aims to balance the need to maintain support for people using our services, with the need to prevent the transmission of Coronavirus to the people who may be most severely affected by it.

Future plans

Trustees and senior leaders at Shoreditch Trust continue to review advice on a daily basis.

We hope to be able to offer face to face support again soon, but we will always place our community first, and focus on the health and wellbeing of people using our services, volunteering and working with us.

We are exploring ways to provide practical support around food delivery, without placing staff at risk.

To receive ongoing updates please join our email list or follow us on Twitter or Facebook.

Other sources of support

Hackney Council Helpline

Hackney has launched a helpline for those affected by Coronavirus, particularly those who are socially isolating and potentially cut off from help. The helpline number is 020 8356 3111 (8am-5pm Monday-Friday).

In the future this will link in to support from the Government and NHS for those being shielded. Staff operating the helpline will take your details and share them with statutory services and the volunteering hub so they can support you.

Hackney map of support services

Hackney Council has produced a map showing organisations across the borough that are open and supporting people at this time e.g. running online classes, making phone calls etc.
Find out more at:

Hackney Volunteer Hub

There is a hub for everyone who is offering their skills or time to help local people via our volunteering hub. All volunteering efforts will be compliant with social distancing.
