Community Table focuses on two key areas of delivery:
Community Table – cooked meal delivery
Working with our trainee chefs on Blue Marble Training, Waterhouse Restaurant cooks and packs meals, delivering to people in Hackney who are not able to cook for themselves.
Community Kitchen - facilitated cook and eat groups
Group cook and eat sessions, bringing people together to prepare and eat a meal together, taking part in discussions and activities on nutrition and cooking topics and building social connections, confidence, peer support and sharing of community knowledge.
Providing the cooked meal service
Community Table operates from the kitchen of WaterHouse Restaurant, a social enterprise run by Shoreditch Trust to train young chefs.
Professional chefs and coordinators oversee food preparation and packing. Each food parcel contains a two-course cooked meal for every person in the household – tailored to meet their dietary requirements. Parcels are delivered by community volunteers, who are DBS checked and trained in socially distanced safe deliveries.
Shoreditch Trust would like to thank all of the funders and supporters who make this work possible.
Community Table has been generously supported by:
Many people using the Community Table meal delivery service may be struggling to shop or cook or do not have access to safe cooking facilities.
Beneficiaries for the service are identified through Shoreditch Trust services, Hackney Council helplines, Adult Social Care, GPs and Primary Care, and the Homerton Respiratory Service, as well as community and self-referrals.
